HOROWHENUA’S POOR SHOWING
Challenging the Manawatu B team for the Goldfinch and Cousins Cup, the Horowhenua representative team batted first at the Sportsground today, but failed to stand up to the Manawatu attack and after two hours’ play were all out for 77 runs. Nairn secured 4 wickets for 13 runs, Hatch 3 for 15, and Lect 2 for 16 (six of his ten Orel’s being maidens). r llie teams were as follow :■ — Horowhenua. France (captain), Crisp, Fletcher. Murrow, Crammond, Whitchorn. Mellor, Kingdou, Hudson, Walker, Flutey. Manawatu B.—G. Wheatley (captain), J. Gallichan, Allan, Pollitt, Spelman, Nairn, Lcet, Hutch, S. McVicar, Spiers, Hardie. Crisp and Fletcher opened to Hatch and Naira and there were 15 runs in hand when Fletcher was caught by Hatch off Nairn.—ls—l—s. Murrow followed with the bat, but did, not open his score, he too falling a victim to Nairn.—ls—2—o. Crammond, the next man, also failed to open his acccount, going out to Hatch. —21—3— 0
Whitehorn was more successful, and put on five before he went out lcg-before-wicket to Nairn.—27 —4—5France, failed to open his account, being well caught by Pollitt off Nairn on the boundary. It was an attractive effort on Pollitt’s part.—37—s—o. Kingdon was another who was out before he had scored, being run out when Hatch made a good throw-in from square leg to scatter the wickets.—4l ary shot off Spelman, but was clean bowled by Loet before lie could add further to the score. Mellor followed, but lie. too, failed to score, having jiis wicket shattered by Leet.—46—S—0. Walker signalled his entry with a boundary shot and hit another four, besides 'running a couple of singles. He was eventually clean-howled by Hatch with a yorker. —96—9 —22. Flutoy went out to join Crisp, who had been batting quietly for close on two hours for 25. He failed to carry his bat, however, being caught by S. McVicar off Hatch when ho turned a ball to 1eg.—77—10—25. Nairn included two maidens m eight overs, and Hatch three in nine and a half overs. Although Leet did not secure tlio major number of wickets, his six maidens in ten overs made him a valuable performer with the ball. Galliclian sent down five overs, three of them maidens, and although Spclman had only two scoreless overs in his eight lie bail but 14 runs hit off his deliveries. WICKETS FALL CHEAPLY

The second day’s play in the Town v. Country cricket match began excitingly, when several Town wickets fell cheaply. Country yesterday compiled 156 and at the end of the day’s play Town had scored 166 for four wickets.
This morning wickets fell cheaply, Lamason, Blandford and Tindill adding 22 runs. Tindill, with 78, had the top score for the innings. Parsloo and Tricklebank added 60 runs for the eighth wicket.
Town were all out at lunch for a total of 280. Galliclian took one for 40.
