BACON TRADE.

EXAMINATIONS AT SMITHFIELD. The Smithfield (London) bacon expert (Mr J. B. Swain) has examined a consignment of bacon pigs from the Brisbane abattoirs, in accordance with a formula involving scores and measurements designed to supply a standard for ideal baconers for the United Kingdom market. The results are not yet available, says a London message. The acting Agent-General for Queensland (Mr L. H. Pike) recommended that baconers bo shipped regularly for this purpose, as it is the only method of enabling Australian breeders to produce baconers suitable to the market. New Zealand has been submitting baconers for these examinations for many months and valuable guidance in the development of the trade has been obtained.
