PERSONAL.
The friends of Mr E. Houlihan, of Palmerston North, will be pleased to learn that he is now convalescent after a recent operation in a private hospital. Miss Joyce Stevens, who recently joined the staff of the local Post Office, received advice this morning that-she had passed the senior civil service examination.
The Palmerston North Rotary Club, yesterday, passed a resolution of condolence with its president (Mr G. G. Priest), in the bereavement he had recently suffered through the death of his brother, Mr Ralph Priest, at Timaru. Mr Rae Campion, of the Bank of New South Wales, Palmerston North, has been promoted to a position as relieving officer for Queensland, and left yesterday for Brisbane. Mr Campion's parents, Mr and Mrs J. Campion, live on Rangitikei Line. Mr T. M. N. Rodgers was appointed by the executive of the Manawatu Automobile Association, last evening, as the association's delegate to the quarterly meeting of the North Island Motor Union council, being held today. The president of the association (Mr N. H. Mackie) advised that he would be unable to act because of pressure of business.
