GOLF SEASON ENDS
MANAWATU CLUB. The 1936 season of the Manawatu Golf Club was closed on Saturday at Hokowhitu with a mixed foursome competition which was won by Miss Thomson and G. P. Maule, who returned a fine card of 72 net. With the course in splendid order some good scores were recorded, no fewer than 11 pairs bettering 76. After afternoon - tea there was a gathering at the clubhouse for the presentation of the trophies. Mr C. G. Moore, the president of tho club, extended congratulations to those who had succeeded in competitions during tlie year, and especially to Mr J. P. Hornabrook, the club champion, who had, in winning the New Zealand amateur title, again demonstrated the fact that he was the best amateur in the Dominion. Mr Moore also thanked the course manager, Mr J. It. Galloway, for his work, the secretary, Mr K. G. Chamberlain, the staff and caterers. Mr L. A. Abraham also spoke and during the course of his remarks he paid a special tribute to the work of Mr and Mrs Moore.
Mrs Moore then presented the prizes, the principal winners being as under: —Club championship: J. P. Hornabrook; runner-up, Iv. Glcndinning. Middleweight championship: L. F. Speeehlcv; runner-up, W. J. Knights. Junior championship: F. W. Petre; runner-up, A. J. Phillipps. McLennan Cup: L. F. Speechley and AY. E. Winks; runners-up, J. M. Taylor and A. Asliby. Nathan Cup : A. Snell. 35 Cup: A. Johns. Barraud Service Cup: G. P. Maule. McHardy Cup: AV. AV. Smith. Druce Cup: J. K. JlcAlanus. Plun.ket Clip: A. Snell and O. H. AYilliams (tie). Cooper and Rapley Cup: Brian AYilton. Maunder Clip : I. Robinson. Moodie Cup: AA 7 . AlcGillivray and A. Johns (tie). Course Record Cup: M. It. Moore (Miramar). The loading scores in the mixed foursome were as under:—G. P.
