AWAPUNI HORSES IN ACTION. PREPARING FOR WOODVILLE. MIRTII FINISHES RACING. (By “Moturoa.”) Conditions were ideal for the semi-final gallops of Awapuni horses engaged at the Woodville meeting next week, but there were no sensational gallops this morning, moat horses being well attuned as the resuit of their recent racing. All fast work took place on the course proper, which is in wonderful order for racing this month. Party (G. Tnttorsall) showed a nice turn of pace and finished well at the end of her five furlongs in 1,7. Her racing is sharpening her up considerably. Hot Shot worked strongly. He raced very greenly at Feilding on Monday, but will benefit by the experience. Hunting Lodge, whoso appearanco belies her recent bad form, was keen to step out in her pacowork. She has never looked better than at present. Round Score and Alloa worked on the plough as did Ingenuity, who is in rare fettle for racing at Woodville on Thursday. Martara (Tattorsall) and Limbohm (Mansfield) ran an easy six furlongs m 1.20 i, the first half mile in 53 3-ssec. Martara pulled away from his companion oyer the last hundred yards and could have improved considerably on the time ho recorded. Limbohm has como on fast with his race at Feilding and ehould soon bo ready to reveal his beat form. Hunting Mars hit out freely in his pacework as did Black Thread, Iluntelto, and Slipstitch, members of the team of the Gisborne trainer W. Goscomb. Black. Thread lightened up a triflo with his race at Feilding on Monday, but should quickly pick up again. HALF SISTER TO TAI AO. Fine Stitch (Doornan) hit out well in running home from the three furlongs in 40 4-ssec. She is a four-year-old brown mare by Threadnecdle from Poly do Luxe, the dam of that brilliant galloper, Tni Ao. Fine Stitch won at her last start and looks a likely sort for the holiday meetings. Le Touquet (Mansfield) finished a triflo better than Pango (Brown) in the last fifty yards of their five furlongs run in 1.6 1-5, the first threo furlongs having been run in 40 l-ssec.

Pacinos (Chaplin) and Gold Nymph (Anderson) were not bustled to run their seven furlongs in 1.358 the first half-mile in 53 l-ssec. They were not knocked about in the straight. Gay Boy (Pine) worked strongly over a mile at a little better than three-quarter pace. Evermore worked well.

Vonia Park (McDowell) wa9 sent over the three schooling hurdles, but he was inclined to screw and the effort was not very impressive. He jumped the last fence fairly well but has a lot to learn about hurdling.

Finnesko (Rowe) and Old Surrey (Anderson) were responsible for a particularly smart effort to slip in from the three furlongs in 38sec. Finnesko was doing his job very nicely at the finish and should be at his best again for the summer meetings. Gay Molly (Broughton) ran right away from Tipsy Miss (Tattorsall) at the end of their half-mile run in 53isec. Tipsy Miss has not improved and has not come up to early expectations. Wild Flower (Williamson) ran an easy half-mile. This Chief Ruler filly is thriving on her racing and looks a picture Laggard (McDowell) gave an unimpressive display over a round of the schooling hurdles, and was inclined to shirk his task. He may do better, however, with a companion. The Peach Brandy—Hallowvonia three-year-old sprinted up the straight hitting out boldly. SMART FIVE FURLONGS. The best gallop of the morning was the five furlongs of Bodylino (Anderson) and Happy Hunting (Broughton), who slipped over tho distaneo in. 1.4 4-5, tho first three furlongs in 39soe. Happy Hunting put in an unexpected dab at the finish to pass the post on terms with Bodyline who, however, was not ridden out. Silent Acre (A. McDonald), who was under restraint throughout, ran his seven furlongs in 1.36. It would not take much to tunc up (his bold galloper for Christmas. The Crooner (Broughton) finished attractively to draw away from Bluffer (Anderson) at the end of half a mile run in 52 1-5 sec. These Nigger Minstrel youngsters are to race at Woodville next week, Bluffer on Thursday and The Crooner on foaturd£riie Tractor—Butterscotch gelding (Rae) ran an easy half-mile in 54sec. He should make a good jumper later on. The Peach Brandy—Miss Quarantine colt (McDonald) sprinted up the straight Ho possesses a bold stylo of galloping, but will not be ready for racing for some time yet. Dawning Light (L. Pine) ran an easy six furlongs, the last three in 50 2-sscc. This Arausio filly has built up a lot in the past few weeks. Symcony, who lias improved appreciably in the short lime she has been back at Awapuni, worked well on the inside grass Black Fox (Chisholm) and Aurora s Love (Pine) from almost a standing start, ran five furlongs in 1.8. P-otli finished on well. There was little between Dungarvan (Pine) and Corroborce at the end of a leisurely run mile in 1.56, the last three furlongs in 39 2-sscc. Both hit out strongly in °he straight. After running her first half-mile in 5b l-sscc, Cloudy Bay (Pine) came home unextended, taking 1.221 for her six furlongs. She looks none the worse for her recent hard races. Colds are fairly prevalent among Awapuni horses at present, and several were absent from the tracks this morning. L A Pine reports that the disappointing" Laughing Prince—Mundane filly. Mirth has been retired from racing and will probably be used at polo before being sent to tho stud. Mirth has been left in the Great Northern Derby by oversight. RIDERS AT WOODVILLE.
