CYCLE REGISTRATION.
SUPPORT IN THE SOUTH BENEFITS ENUMERATED. Per Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Dec. 5. At the quarterly meeting of the South Island Motor Union, held at Queenstown last evening, the registration of cyclists was advocated, members being almost unanimously in favour of the move, stating that it would he in the interests of all roadusers. Mr 11. H. Henderson (Otago), moving an Otago remit that the Government be approached to embody in the new regulations the registration of cycles, condemned the practice of riding two and three abreast. It was a common breach, he said, and there were no means of identifying offenders. Registration would solve this and many other problems. Mr G. S. Morris (Canterbury) advocated the registration of bicycles to facilitate the apprehension of cyclists who violated by-laws. At present the police had little or no means of identifying offenders. Mr F. W. Johnston (Christchurch) said the registration of cyclists should be left to the Government and not the local bodies. This remit was carried. A vote of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mr P. R. Harman, who was a member of the executive. Mr Angus Donaldson (Christchurch) was elected to the vacancy on /the executive caused by Mr Harman’s death.
