EXTRACTS FROM "STANDARD.” DECEMBER 5, 1906. Owing to washouts and slips caused by heavy rain, traffic on the Manawatu railway lino was disorganised, the express from Now Plymouth being unable to proceed beyond Palmerston North. Rongotca residents had received advice that if they contributed half the total cost of £225. a striking clock and turret tower would he provided for the new Post Office there. The Glen Oroua Dairy Company had taken over the Mangawhatu creamery and was negotiating for the purchase of the Rangiotu creamery, the Taikorea creamery having been closed down. A British syndicate had acquired the only known coalfield in Abyssinia. The new Spanish Premier, Scnor Mcret, had resigned, and endeavours were being made to form another Cabinet. The Full Court had decided at Melbourne that the sale of Tattcrsall’s sweepstake tickets in Victoria was a contravention of an Act of George IV.
