HOSPITAL EMPLOYEES
UNION MEMBERSHIP. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Dec. 4. There is now no prospect of a union being formed to include the clerical and domestic employees of the Auckland Hospital Board. Registration of the proposed Auckland Hospital Employees’ Union lias been refused by the Minister of Labour (Hon. H. T. Armstrong) and it lias now been arranged that the members of_ the office staffs of the board will join the Auckland Provincial District Local Authorities’ Officers’ Union, and that the cooks, porters, ward maids and other domestics will become members of the Auckland Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union. Advice has been received by the president of thp Local Authorities’ Officers’ Union (Air T. Aslib.v) from the Registrar of Industrial Unions, that registration of the proposed Auckland Hospital Employees’ Union has been ■refused and that it has been suggested to the organisers of that movement that the employees, other than domestic workers, might join the Local Authorities’ Union. It was further stated that the cooks, porters, ward maids and other domestic workers should belong to the Hotel Workers’ Union. It was stated by Air Ashby that the executive of his union had already decided to take the necessary steps to amend the rules of the union to permit of the inclusion of the mem-’ hers of the hospital hoard’s office staffs. Well over 100 cooks, porters and ward maids employed by the Auckland Hospital Board will become members of tlie Auckland Hotel and Restaurant Workers’ Union. The union secretary said that already a great many had joined and the majority had signified their intention of joining the union. Quite a number had signed their membership forms.
