PLUCKY RESCUE.

DOUBLE DROWNING AVERTED. Per Press Association. AVAIROA, Nov. 30. , The fine rescue work of a 12-year-old schoolboy, Ernest Blake, prevented a double tragedy at Mahia on Friday afternoon, when he dived into the Kopuawhura Creek and rescued his seven-year-old brother, AVilliam. He was then informed that another brother, Edward, aged 9, had disappeared in the stream and again dived and swam out to the spot, but was unable to locate him. The boy’s body was recovered four hours later, and a.t the inquest, held yesterday, a verdict of accidental drowning was returned. It appears that the three boys. Claries, AVilliam and Edward, sons of Mr and Mrs Charles Blake, of Kaiwaiha.u, Mahia, went to , the stream for a swim against their mother’s ordei-6. They waded across the stream to a shallow spot and started to swim back, Edward. who was a strong swimmer, taking AVilliam, who could not swim, on liis back. They had not gone very far when Edward sank and left William struggling in the water. Charles, gaining the bank, gave the alarm and Ernest ran to the rescue. Throwing off his clothes and diving into the water, he managed to bring AVilliam ashore, and then re-entered the water in an endeavour to rescue the other brother without success.
