RANGITIKEI.

AIARTON, Nov. 27.. A rose show was held, in the Civic Theatre last night. There was a large attendance and local talent furnished a short programme, which opened with two ballads, “In the Hour of Softened Splendo.ur” and “Sweet and Low,” by the choir under the baton of Air C. Wadman. Kola Archibald and l’at Goebel danced the Irish J ig, and Mr N. Shelton rendered ‘'Brian of Glonaar” and “A Brown Bird Singing.” Other performers were Air Mark Gnifin (humorous monologue) and Nola Archibald (acrobatic dance), while a sketch, “Knocking ’em Down,” and the choir in two numbers, “An Evening Pastorale” and “The Little Old Garden,” brought the programme to a close. Tlio Marton District High School secured nine firsts, eight seconds, and ton third places in the writing and drawing classes for schools, while pupils of the arts and crafts course in tlio secondary department entered in two classes and obtained two firsts and two seconds.

St. Andrew’s Tennis Club held a special meeting, Mr It. C. Ball presiding. As the club has affiliated with the Wanganui Tenns Assocation a set of club rules is required. Mr A. W. Gorrie (secretary) had drafted a set which were unanimously adopted. It was decided to circularise members asking for their support in the matter of a new asphalt court. The secretary was instructed to arrange a match with St. Paul’s (Feilding) on December 12. The Marton Junction School has realised £7 10s to date from the sale of health stamps. The llangitikei County held its monthly meeting to-day. Cr. K. W. Dalrymple presided. A. letter was received from the State Advances Department referring to housing loans and the engineer was instructed to bring down a report on the question of raising a loan lor the housing of the council’s permanent employees. The Public Works Department remitted £3600 lls lid on account of Main Highway subsidies. The Main Highways Board wrote' stating that the Auckland-Wellington via Taranaki main highway and the Bulls-Taumaru-nui main highway had been classified as State highways. The council, however, was asked to continue the maintenance work in the meantime. The agitation in Bulls to be placed in the Palmerston North Hospital Board area instead of in "Wanganui area ns at present was discussed, correspondence from both Hospital Boards being read. Cr. Coleman (a member of the Wanganui Hospital Board) said lie had told the board tha.t he thought the council would oppose the change as the question of rating was involved. Mr A. W. Trotter (noxious weeds inspector) reported the action taken by farmers in the - work of eliminating noxious weeds. Mr H. J. Fowler (traffic inspector) reported the absence of serious motor accidents.

The Marton District High School is endeavouring to replace the radio receiver removed last year. Subscriptions are being invited to provide the necessary funds.
