MIDNIGHT RESCUE

PARTY OF ANGLERS. LAKE OK AT AIN A INCIDENT. ROTORUA, Nov. 28. Rescued at midnight in a high wind and in heavy rain while sheltering at tho lower end of Lake Okataina, a party of overseas anglers. Colonel Audain, Colonel Wall and Miss CourtneyHood, had an unpleasant experience when a gale of considerable severity swept across Rotorua district. The party had gone o.ut during the day to fish on Lake Okataina, and were at the lower end of the lake when the storm broke. They decided that, as they had only an open boat with an outboard motor, to remain where they were until conditions moderated, but when they had not returned to their hotel by 10 o’clock some of their friends became anxious and sent out a search party. Mrs T. W. White, who resides at The Lodge at Lake Okataina, and who knows the lake well, at 11 o’clock took an open boat with an outboard engine and, accompanied by some of the members of the search party, proceeded to the far end of the lake, where a fire guided her to a bay where the anglers were sheltering. On the way she fortunately recovered a dinghy taken out by a first party and which had broken adrift. The party returned wet and weary, but otherwise..none the worse for their experience, well after midnight, thus relieving the general anxiety that was lelt for their safety.
