SOME INTERESTING FIGURES ON AVIATION.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —It may be of interest to ratepayers to see the statistics relating to the Union Airways Trunk service covering the 40 weeks' period from January--16 to October 24, 1936, a period including the winter months: —Percentage of trips completed, 98.4; total miles flown, 277,885; passengers carried, 4887; mails carried, 23,2921b.j petrol used, over 83,000 gallons; oil used, over 3000 gallons; Then, of course, there was pa66engers’ baggage, 111,9301 b; goods and excess baggage, 42941 b. Not bad for an entirely new form of transport and just an indication of what it will be before long. Already Palmerston North’s airport at Milson is the terminal for the 'interisland service and other services are being contemplated linking the city with other parts of the Dominion. It does not require much imagination to foresee the airport at Milson as the great commercial airport of New Zealand. lam sure citizens will be pleased to own this wonderful enterprise and they can do this by every ratepayer voting for the loan on Wednesday next.—l am, etc., RATEPAYER NO 1-
