ASHHURST

(From Our Own Correspondent.) ASHIIURST. Nov. 27. On Wednesday evening a concert and dance was held in the down Hall in aid of the health camp campaign. There was an exceptionally good attendance, the hall being filled. Visitors were present from Aokautere, Woodville, Pohangina, Raumai and Palmerston North. The items wero received with much applause. Mr A. Balnler, who was chairman, explained to the audience the reason for the appeal, and stated how children benefited by the camp. The entertainment opened with a community sing, lod by Mr Wood and Mr L Flowers, and items were given as follow Song, Mr Wood; recitation, Miss Patricia Kerrigan; song, Mr A. Balmor; tap dunco. Misses E. and N. Mclsaac; song, Mrs W. Hanlon; playette, by the younger members of the Women’s Institute, entitled “Cinderella,” the characters being as follow Mrs Carmichael, Mrs Gaisford; Laura, Miss Irene Woodfoofe; Cinderella, Miss Septa Bishop; Jess (the maid), Miss Marie Wilkin; Duchess, Miss Moira Tremcwan. Each performer carried out her part most creditably. Other items were: Juggling, by Mr C. Rusden; humorous monologue, Mrs Gaisford. Then came the principal item, |.l.r mock Parliament, by the members of the Hall Committee. The audience were well amused, and appreciated the effort by the men, who had put in a great deal of time in preparing themselves for such a performance. Those taking part were: Messrs F. Dunstall, G. Bleakly, H. Bristow, L. Flowers, A. Cheshire W. Woodroofe, J. McDonell, W. Drummond, W. Brewer, T. Baton, and J. Flowers, senr. The accompanistc for the performers wa9 Mrs Hewitt. The chairman at t!>k conclusion of the concert expressed thanks to those who had helped to make the concert such a success. Supper ‘ was handed round by the ladies, after which the floor was cleared for dancing. Mr T. Spelman was M.C., and Mrs Hewitt was at the piano, being assisted by Messrs Flowers and Cheshire. The friends of Miss Beth Romley will be sorry to hear she has had the misfortune to injure her ankle.
