EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” NOVEMBER 28, 1906.
A paragraph stated: “The ‘squatter’s dream’ o£ wool at a shilling a pound, which a few years ago was related merely to raise a laugh, is being realised in a pleasant way. Wool is selling in Wellington at ll|d per pound which means 13d in London.” At the first annual meeting of the Palmerston North Swimming (,'lub it had been disclosed that there were 44 financial members. The income had been £l3and the expenditure £l4. About 40 applications had been received for the position of clerk to the Manawatu County Council, which had been rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr F. Purnell. The BrooUlands Automobile Club was offering £2500 to the person .first flying an aeroplane over three miles'of the club's course. Bostock and Womhwcll’s circus had been sold at Melbourne. The befit offer for the jot had been £ISOO. With the animals sold individually an elephant had brought £337.
