ALISON CUP LOOKS OPEN. (By “Moturoa.”) The Takapuna Jockey Club|s spring meeting, which opens at Ellerslie to-mor-row and on Monday, is generally regarded as a good trial for the Auckland summer fixture, ami 60 considerable interest will be taken in the form shown during the week-end. The Alison Cup field contains many horses which will go on to contest the Auckland Cup. Jonathan and Scotland wero both expected to race well at To Rapa but failed badly, and moro interest will be taken in Mazir, who caino from last to fourth in the \V aikato Cup. It was a brilliant effort. Royal Appellant, who has been penalised to 9.2, is right back to his best form again, and although a mile is his best distance, his chances cannot bo denied.
Kelly’s form on this course in October was really attractive and he promises to play an important part in the decision of the Cup. King Rey ran a fine race last Saturday for his first appearance of the season, and is sure to improve, while Gay Talkie, who is tho northern hope for the Derby, has been racing well. It will bo a good Derby trial, for his 8.3 is 51b. over standard w.f.a. Crooning and Sinking Fund have to be considered, and so have Knight of Australia and Con p’uuco. It should be a great race.
