CORONER’S RIDER.
SAFEGUARD ON GRAFTON BRIDGE. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Nov. 25. “I find further that, in view of the large number of persons who cast themselves from this bridge, it is desirable that some obstruction be placed above the concrete railing, such as five strands of heavy barbed wire at intervals of four inches, and tightly stretched.” This was a rider added by the Coroner (Mr Wyvern Wilson) at the inquest to-day on Thomas Edward Watson, aged 35, an apartment house keeper, whose body was found underneath Grafton Bridge yesterday morning. The evidence showed that deceased’s wife was in a maternity hospital and gave birth to a child a week ago. Watson appeared to be in good health when last seen, on Sunday evening. The Coroner found that the evidence was insufficient to show how deceased came by the fall.
