RANGITIKEI

AIARTON, Nov. 18

Beautiful weather marked the closing day for the ladies of the Marton Golf Club, when there was a particularly good attendance. A sealed orders match for Airs Harris’s trophy resulted in a win for Airs Alodgride who also won Aliss Openshaw’s trophy run in conjunction. -The afternoon foursome for a trophy (donated by Airs Howard and Aliss Al. Galpin) was won by Airs Budding and Mrs Strouts (Wanganui). Trophies won during tho year were presented to the players by Airs J. A. Harris who made a small presentation to Airs K. Glasgow (secretary), in recognition of her services. As Mrs Harris is leaving for an extended trip abroad, Mrs Beckett, on behalf of the members, handed her a gift as' a token of tho esteem in which she is held.

The annual report of the Marton Defence Rifle Club states that regular practice shoots were engaged in, but the number participating did not average more than a dozen members, which considering the central position was not satisfactory. The shooting generally was of a high standard. The Championship Challenge Cup was won by Rifleman C. Cock’burn with a margin of 6 points, and Rifleman W. Sanders gained second place with Rifleman C. Zajonskowski third. An inter-club match, fired with the Turakina Defence Rifle Club, was held on the Turakina Range and the Aiarton Club took the honours by a narrow margin.
