PAHIATUA, Nov. 19. Mr TV. F. Cobb, of New Plymouth, lias arrived in Paliiatua to take over the duties of clerk of the Court. Mr A. O. F. Clarke left this morning for Timaru, where lie will take up his duties as assistant clerk. Mrs A. Pringle is an inmate of a private hospital, where she is undergoing an operation. Aliss N. Gregory, of Alangaliao, is on holiday in Wellington. Airs Ebbett, senr., Palmerston North, is visiting Air and Airs F. Ebbett, Alakomako. The members of the Bar this week farewelled Air Owen Clarke, who for a number of years lias been Clerk of the Court at l’ahiatua. Air R. T. Adams spoke eulogistically on behalf of the members of his profession, during the Court sitting, and the Magistrate, Air J. L. Stout, S.AI., added that Air Clarke had always been a great help, to ihp Ala gist rate and professional men. He congratulated him on his appointment to Timaru. Air J. L. Stout, S.AI., presided over a sitting of the Alagistrate’-s- Court. Remarking that the circumstances were unusual and that a fine of £2 and 10s would do, His Worship fined the Paliiatua Co-operative Dairy Company (Air J. G. Brechin) for failing to comply with the regulations under the Factories Act, 1922, governing the keeping of a wage and over-time book. The action was taken by the inspector of factories (Air R. AVeir). Duelh Rama, a Hindu fruiterer, was fined 20s, costs 10s, for selling- fruit on a Sunday night. Norman Darcy Wareham was fined 10s, *with costs, for parking contrary to the regulations. E. T. Aliller, T. F. Anderson, P. Alekalick and S. F. Alalmanclie were also charged with similar breaches and were dealt with in a like manner. George Herbert Gillard, for driving a car without a driver’s license, was also fined 10s with costs. For driving a car with one headlight, Gillard was fined £1 with 10s costs. A. Futcher, charged with riding a bicycle after dark without a. light, was fined 10s, with 10s costs. For riding a motor cycle in the main street without any registration numbers and without the motor cycle being fitted with a proper silencer, N. Pettersen was fined 10s, with 10s costs, on both charges. W. P. Walsli was charged with driving a car without having a driver’s license and failing to drive on the correct side of the road, thus causing an accident. On the first charge a fine of 10s was imposed, and he was fined £2 and 12s costs for failing to keep to the correct side. Traffic Inspector Alilne, of the Paliiatua County, laid charges against AY. Hood for a breach of the speed limit with a motor truck and he was fined £2, with 12s costs, hoi- employing a maii to operate a motor vehicle without >a driver’s license and also with permitting the use of a lorry without a heavy traffic license, G. A. Wade was fined I.os, with costs, on the first charge and £l, with costs, on the second. T. Hermon, the driver of AYade’s lorry, was fined 10s and costs for failing to have a license. For similar breaches C. Connel received a like fine and bis son, AI. Connel, who drove the truck, was also fined 10s with costs. For operating heavy motor vehicles without possessing heavy traffic licenses L. E. Humphrey and J. Aliller wore each fined £1 with 12s costs. Reserved judgment was given in the case of Gardner and Yeoman v. E. B. AA 7atson (for £246 5s 3d), the Bench ruling in favour of defendant, allowing 15s witnesses’ expenses and £l2 6s solicitor’s fees. At the request of Air Rawson (solicitor for plaintiff) the Alagistrate fixed security of appeal at costs plus £ls.
