SQUADRON-LEADER SWAIN’S CAREER. Squadron-Leader Swain was born at Southsea in August, 1903, and Avent to Stonyhurst College. He was seconded to the Royal Air Force in 1922 Avith a short service commission. Early in 1924 he underwent a flying instructor’s course at the Central Flying School, Upavon. He Avas stationed at Netlieravon—Avhere he finished his record flight—at Digby, at Henlow. and at Kenley. He then Avent to the Middle East.

In 1933 he was selected as the flight commander of a flight of five Fairey Gordon aircraft Avhich did a special' cruise from Egypt to tho East Africa colonies and Northern and Southern Rhodesia.

Since returning from Egypt in the’ autumn of 1933 he has been at the Experimental Section at the Royal Aircraft Establishment, South Farnborough.
