NATIVE BUSH
STEPS FOR PRESERVATION. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 19. Proposals for the preservation of native bush and planting trees and shrubs along the Dominion’s highways were discussed to-day at a conference of State departmental officials. The Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. AV. E. Parry), who is an enthusiast on the beautification of highways, and recreational spaces, presided, and representatives of the Forestry,'Lands. Internal Affairs, Agricultural, Public AVorks, Post and Telegraph, Railways and Education Departments attended. The conference, which was not open to the Press, was held at Parliament House.
Air Parry subsequently said he was pleased with the results so far achieved. “It is a very good start,” he said, “to bring into activity an efficient working organisation, not only for the preservation of native trees, but for the planting of new trees along the highways and at other suitable places. It is intended when matters are a little further forward to hold conferences with horticultural and beautifying societies and kindred bodies. The plan is for all to co-oper-ate with the State Departments in the very important work to be undertaken.”
