In a chess match held recently at Woodville, Palmerston North v. Wood-viUe-Dannevirke, the Palmerston North Club won by 6 games to 4. Q. Christensen 1 v. C. Smith (W.) 0; L. Riclly 1 v. D. Baker (W.) 0. After short speeches by the presidents of the clubs, Messrs M. Munro (Woodville), H. G. Lee (Danncvirke) and H. Christensen (Palmerston North), supper brought a pleasant evening to a close.
