PRESENT-DAY DOGS.
“MORE NEUROTIC.” “Dogs nowadays are more neurotic than their ancestors of 20 years ago, declared a speaker, addressing the opening session of the National Veterinary Medical Association Congress at Scarborough. During the last 20 years, he said, the dog’s feelings had altered, liis lmbits hail become more restricted, and the noi.se and bustle around him had increased beyond belief. The more rigid control of breeding, directed rather to stream-line types than to health and intelligence, with the gradual elimination of the mongrel, was likely to develop a more sensitive nervous system at the expense of physical stamina.
Mr J. K. Bateman, of the Greyhound Racing Association Kennels at Northaw, Hertfordshire, declared that lie never had hysteria among his 750 dogs.
