CONCERN FOR PRESERVATION. (Geneva Official Mireless.) GENEVA, Oct. 2G. The Committee of Directors ol the International Museums Office met at the International Institute lor Intellectual Co-operation to take action on the lines ol the last Assembly’s discussion, and reconsidered, in connection with'present events in Spain, the problem ol the protection of monuments and works of art in time of war or civil disorder.
The directors’ committee asked the advice of the Belgian legal expert (M. Charles Devisseher), who gave, his opinion on the present position in international law. The committee drew up a report stating that it learnt that in Spain essential precautions had been taken in several -places in conformity with recommendations already made by the office to protect national artistic and cultural pro-
perty. The report recommends the Intellectual Co-operation organisation to use its influence in this field.
Regarding the general question of the protection of monuments and works of art in time of war or civil disorder, tlie committee mentioned previous recommendations and expressed the view that technical and legal investigations should be completed. leading to ail international agreement.
