ROAD OVER RANGE.

FORMATION, WORK STARTED. Fifty men are now engaged on the construction of the road over the range from Woodville to Ashliurst as an alternative route to the Manawatu Gorge. Formation work commenced a week ago on the Woodville side, and thirty men are living in the camp established at the end of Saddle Road. Operations at the Ashliurst end, involving the bridging of the Pohangina River, will not be commenced for some time yet. 'The whole undertaking is expected to occupy twelve months, and when it is well under way there will probably be about 75 men on the job.
