LONGBURN.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) LONGBURN, Oct. 5. Miss H. Rowland, of Karere, has been visiting friends in Wellington. Mrs C. CHills is visiting her daughter, Mrs J. Paul, of Cambridge. . The annual meeting of the I emus Club was held in the school, Mr K. Jewell being elected to the chair. The report stated that the season proved to be a successful one, and although there was no increase in membership the balance-sheet still showed the substantial credit balance of £4 103 6cl. A team was entered into the Saturday IS grade competitions, but owing to the loss of three ot its strongest members did not perform as well as in previous years. The coming season promised to be a successful one; several new players had signilied their intention of enrolling. Before commencing the business of the now season, the chairman referred to the great loss suffered by the president, Mr A. Nicol, in the death of his son, members standing in silence as a mark of sympathy. It was deieded to enter a team in the competitions as in previous years. Owing to a number of subscriptions bciiig outstanding, it was decided to enforce the rule of entering only financial members in the handicap ami championship events. A “working bee’’ was arranged. It was decided that the opening day he October 10. The following are the officers elected for the ensuing year: —Patron, Mr R. Tanner; president, Mr A. Nicol: vicepresidents, Messrs T. Ornisb.v. T. Cooksloy, T. Rowland, C. C. Hills, A. Oliver. A. Hansom, R. Day and .1. Callcscn: secretary and treasurer, Mr W. Aklerslcy; club captain, Mr F. llearsey; selection committee, Miss 11. Hills, Messrs IS. Jewell and 11. Bowler; general committee, Misses 11. Hills, U. Chamberlain, b. Campbell, J. Shirriffs, Messrs 11. Bowler, M. Shirriffs, IS. Jewell, and R. Rowland. Miss C. Rowland is spending a lew days with friends in Wellington.
