SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

MONTHLY MEETINGS. MANCHESTER STREET SCHOOL. The Manchester Street School Committee met last night, when there were present: Mr G. J. Fitzpatrick (chairman), Mrs P. G. Guy, Messrs J. Campbell (secretary), R. Hume and L. J. Carmine. Apologies for absence were received from Mrs S. McDowall, Messrs G. Watts and W. Oliver.

In his report, the headmaster (Air A. K. Robertshaw) stated that the average daily roll for the four weeks ending October 2, on which the grade of the school will bo based for the ensuing year, was 378. This number just failed to qualify the school for a 6A status. The roll at the beginning of the term was 36223 had been admitted and four had left, and the roll at October 5 was 381. The average attendance for the period was 341.5, whooping cough having affected the attendance. The school had arranged Flower Day on Friday last and this enterprise showed a profit of £7 Bs, which was considered very satisfactory. The headmaster asked for a copy of the New Zealand Year Book, which was needed for examination purposes. During the year ended September 30 the sum of £135 7s 9d had been deposited in the school savings bank. The chairman said he hoped that the Education Board might stretch a point and raise the grade of the school though the required roll had not secured, but it was pointed out that the authorities generally required a margin over the bare required number to be certain that the school would not fall again through a drop in the roll. The committee asked the secretary to procure a copy of the Aear Book. Congratulations were offered on the great success of the school savings bank system. Necessary repairs to the buildings were arranged through the good offices of Mr Burne. , , , . A deputation from the Parents Association waited on the committee and discussed arrangements for the proposed gala day in aid of funds for the school library. It was agreed to hold the gala day late in November and the organisation was tentatively agreed upon.
