INSTITUTE OF SECRETARIES.

ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Manawatu Sub-Chapter of the New Zealand Institute of Secretaries (Inc.) was held last evening, when there was present a representative gathering of members covering a wide area. The meeting was presided over by the district chairman (Mr H. E. Kissling) who reviewed the progress of the branch since its inception a year ago. “The sub-cliapter is now soundly established,” he said, “and there can be no doubt as to its playing an important and useful part in the commercial life of Palmerston North and district.”

After numerous matters of detail had been dealt with, the election of officers was proceeded with, the following being appointed for the ensuing year:—Chairman, Air H. E. Kissling; vice-chairman, Air A. P. Stuart; hon. secretary and treasurer, Air G. N. Hawken; members of committee, Messrs G. C. Francis, P. B. Desmond, J. B. Simllie, A. S. Trevithick, G. H. Dawick, H. S. Quigley, A. Way and G. N. Boulton. The attendance of several officers of the Wellington Chapter, including the chairman and secretary, and past secretary, was greatly appreciated by local members. Mr E. A. Wallace, past president of the institute, was also present, and at the conclusion of the formal business he addressed the meeting concerning the activities of the . organisation from both, a national and a local aspect. Mr Wallace lias played a most important part in creating and building up the institute to the largest of its kind in the Dominion, and is always ready to make a sacrifice to assist new branches of the organisation over tile difficult period of establishment. Air F. W. Vosseler (president of the Wellington Chapter) also addressed the meeting, while Messrs T. It. Pereton and R. V. Jones (secretary and past secretary of the same chapter respectively) were able to offer appreciated advice and guidance. From the degree of enthusiasm, there is every indication that the local sute chapter is about to enjoy a year of further progress and usefulness, an active committee ensuring that the attractive programme planned will merit the closet interest of all members.
