LAST WEEK’S BUSINESS AND

PRICES. There were no special features in the stock and share markets last week. Following the holiday last Monday, business was rather dull, but it improved later in the week. Tho interest of investors continued to run mainly on Australian industrial issues, New Zealand shares being relatively noglcctcd. 'The markets were generally steady at about late rates. A fair amount of business was done in Government loans, prices showing little or no change. Local body debentures were dull and neglected. There wero dealings in New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative 43 per cents, at from £92 to £92 10s. Bank shares wero quiet and prices showed little or no change. New Zealand were weak, business being dono at 38s 3d, with later sales at 38s 6d. National of New Zealand sold unchanged at 60s. Commercial of Australia had business at 18s 3cf, 18s 5d and 18s 4d, and Commercial of Sydney were done at £l9 15s. E.S. and A. Bank sold at £5 15s 6d to £5 16s, National of Australasia, £5 paid, at £7 and £7 Is. New South Wales were steady at £32 10s to £32 12s 6tl, and Union of Australia sold at £9 9s 6d. Insurance shares were very quiet, and business was restricted. National firmed on 6alcs up to 18s lOd. Financial and pastoral issues wero quietly steady. Now Zealand Loan and Mercantile ordinary stock had dealings at £35. Goldsbrough Mort were firm at from 33s 4d to 33s Bd. Most New Zealand industrial issues were dull and on the easy side. Wellington Gas sold at 38s. Auckland Gas,_ which have shown weakness for some time, sold at from 22s 8d to 22s lOd. Now Zealand Refrigerating, 10s paid, were weak and sold down to 9s Id. New Zealand timber shares were neglected in favour of Kauri, which were firm and active and sold to 24s 9d. Breweries were quiet. _ Dominion firmed to business at 325. Tooths were easier, selling at 563 and 55s 3d. Staples wore done at 34s 9d and New Zealand at from 52s Id to 51s lid. Most, of the business recorded in tho miscellaneous section was dono in Australian issues, which wore generally steady. Anothony Hordern sold at 18s 8d and 18s 7d, Amalgamated Wireless contributing were very firm at 40s 9d, and Australian Glass had dealings at 92s 3d to 92s 6d. British Tobacco were transferred at 43s 6d, and Burns Phdp at 725. Broken Hill Proprietary were quiet but firm at from 76s 6d to 77s 2d, tho new issue contributing going at 56s lid to 575. There was active trading in tho rights to Wellington Alluvial, which ranged from 2s 4d to 3s. DunLop Pordriau sold at 18s 6d to 18s 7d and ex dividend at from 17s 7d to 17s 43(1. Colonial Sugar were firm at £42 17s 6d to £43. Electrolytic Zinc wore less active, but dealings wero on a firm basis. G. J. Coles were traded at from 81s 9d to 82s 3d and ex rights at 76s 9d to 775, the rights selling at 35s 6d and 345. Taranaki Oil developed some interest and sold at Is 6d to Is 7d. Woolworths (N.Z.) improved on business from £5 Is to £5 3s 6d, and the Sydney issue was active at £5 5s to £5 7s 6d. Tho chief feature in tho mining section was heavy trading in Mount Morgan. Business was done at from 12s lOd up to 14s 9d, but the market weakened later and sales were made down to 13s lOd. Martha firmed from 19s 6d to 20s Id, and Waihi Junction to 3s 9d.
