ESCAPE FROM INJURY

Flight-Lieutenant A. E. Clouston, tlio New Zealand competitor in the air race, crashed at Gwelo, 130 miles south of Salisbury. The machine was wrecked, hut Clouston and a passenger, Mr Tasker, were uninjured. Owing to engine trouble Clouston had Peon able to make only short hops, Out covered 1400 miles on toaturuay, landing at laOora, AOercorn anel Atpika before being forced down at uioko, where he took m 12 gallons ot petrol and restarted for Saiisuury. His non-amvai caused great anxiety and every available plane started to search.

Later tic took up flying at Blenheim, naming under Captain Cliand ler, and alter a tow months, at. the age of 21, he sailed for England, where fie was with the Eairey Aviation Company for somo months until ho joined the Loyal Air Force. At present ho’ occupies a position as chief tost pilot to the Air Ministry and has been given time off to permit him to participate in tho race.
