BULLS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) DULLS, Oct. 2. The annual meeting of the Dulls Tenuis Club was held on Wednesday, the president (Mr A. W. Amon) being in the chair, 'the report and balance-sheet were adopted, the report stating, inter alia: “The position of the club is better financially than when the last balance-sheet was read, but the membership has again dropped, this time from 45 to 58; thus the subscriptions have decreased by £6 10s. Expenses have been kept low. A new net a-nd two new umpires’ stools were purchased. The most satisfactory aspect of the balance-sheet is the reduction of the overdraft from £27 15s 7d to £7 10s 4d. The club entered two teams in the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association competitions, but owing to wet weather the Wednesday matches were not completed. The Saturday team had varying success only. The Newman Cup was won by Miss Haycock and W. liuner, with Mrs Kalfo and D. Ralfe runners-up. Mr J. Johnstone won the men’s championship. The dance, although enjoyable, did not add much to the funds, but a card evening held at the residence of Mr and Mrs Gould was a great success, and thanks, are due to Mr and Mrs Gould. Several members have left the district, and their loss will be felt. They include Mr and Mrs Gould, and Messrs Hillicr, Doig and Howell. Prospects for the coming season seem reasonably bright. There are several new members, and old members aro urged to induce others, especially young players, to join.” The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr F. J. Watson; president, Mr A. W. Amon; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Linklater, Hunter, Hendry and J. Tricker, senr.; captain, Mr Amos; hon. secretary, Miss Stevens; hon. treasurer, Mr Italfe; ladies’ committee, Mrs Armstrong and Misses Kearney and Haycock; men’s committee, Messrs Farrer, Johnstone, Green, Hendry, Montgomerie; ladder committee, the captain, secretary and Mrs Farrer, lion, auditor, Mr Mackay; delegate to the Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association, Mr Amos. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Mackay for his services as honorary auditor. Tea arrangements will be as last year, and subscriptions the same also. Opening day was fixed, and invitations are to be sent to various clubs, and a progressive Yankee tournament held. A combined Yankee tournament will be held on Labour Day, Messrs Farrer, Hendry and Johnstone were appointed a grounds committee.

Mr It. D. McKclvio presided over a meeting of the general committee of the llangitikei Pacing Club, when a large amount of rohtino business in connection with the forthcoming race meeting was transacted. The programme has been approved by the Wanganui District Committc, and the increased stakes and alterations made to sevoral events have been favourably commented on by owners and trainers. This spring £735 will bo given away in seven races, the McKelvie Memorial Handicap being worth £175; the Clifton Handicap, £120; and the Sandon Hurdles, £llO. Good stakes aro also offered for hacks, and for maidens (two-year-olds and upwards). Another feature which has found favour is the delaying of closing of acceptances until after the Labour Day races, thus giving owners an opportunity to see liow their horses run before incurring extra expense. The race card then, it is hoped, will he full of starters, not scratchings. Tho chief officials appointed for the season are: Judge, Mr A. V. O’Brien; handicapper, Mr J. E. Henrys; starter, Mr W. C. Price; clerk of the scales, .Mr D. Stevens. It was decided to engage the Marlon Municipal Band for the spring meeting, and the first race will start at 12.50 p.m., and the last at 5 p.rn. Repairs have been effected to the members’ stand, and various minor improvements have been made. The course proper is in perfect order, a great deal of money having been spent on it since tho March meeting. The membership of tho club is now 199. The trainers, A. E. Neale and C. W. France, have eight hoises in work at Bulls at present, and their teams may bo added to shortly.
