WOODVILLE.

WOODVILLF., Sept, 30. For the purpose of further discussing the weekly hall-holiday question, the Woodville Retailers’ Association met again, there being a largo attendance of business men. A notice of motion moved by Mr G. McLaehlan, rescinding the present hours under which business is at present conducted in Woodville, was carried with little discussion, there being only one dissenting voice. A motion that the weekly half-holiday be changed from Wednesday to Saturday was then put to the meeting and carried. It was resolved to make the change on October 10. Two or three business men have signified their intention of continuing under the old order. At the monthly meeting of the Woodville School Commute, Mr R. 11. Johnson presided. The report of the headmaster (Mr W. E. Fossolte) was adopted. It was decided to purchase necessary sports gear and to thank Mr J. Fulton lor an offer to prepare a match pilch. Committee members favoured tbe installation of a moving picture projector at the school and it was decided to hold £2O of the receipts of the recent ball and school concert to go towards the purchase of a suitable machine. On the chairman's recommendation, it was decided that the balance of about £4 be used for the purchase of sports materials. In reply to a complaint from the committee against tile school s capitation grant, advice .was received that the Department of Education had decided to make provision for an increase in school committees allowances. In his reply, the Minister of Education stated that the increase would be approximately 50 per cent, on last years figures and payment of arrears at the incleaned rale would be distributed at an early date. The total grant from April 1 of this year would lie in excess of the amount received by the committee notwithstanding that the Woodville School has ta'lon in grade. Mr Johnson stated that the committee’s position could lie considered very satisfactory. Their grant would he about £l7O compared with £llO last year, which would enable the committee to meet its obligations more easily.
