RETAINED BY FERRIER. MELBOURNE, Oct. 1. Jim Ferrier, w'ithout difficulty, retained his title of amateur golf champion of Australia w'hen to-day in the final ho beat the Victorian, Alec Rac. 9 and 8. Ferrier played magnificent golf. Since the last round of tbe open championship on Saturday he has not exceeded 72 for 18 holes. The professional final will ho played to-morrow. WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIPS. MISSES FISHWICK AND GOURLAY BEATEN. Received October 2, 10.0 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 1. In the fifth round of the women’s golf championship, Miss Holmes beat Miss Stobart. 2 and 1 ; Miss YYade heat Miss Fishwick. 2 and 1; Miss Gourlay heat Miss Eddis. 4 and 3 ; Miss Mo wan boat Miss Newell, 4 and 2. Inutile semi-finals Miss Morgan beat Miss Gourlay, 1 up; Miss Wade beat Miss Holmes, 2 up.
