RANGIOTU INSTITUTE.

The September meeting of the Rangiotu Women’s Institute was held recently, Mrs Pearce presiding. Two new members were welcomed, Mrs Attwood and Mrs George Millard. A much appreciated visitor was Mrs Hands, vicepresident of the Prebbleton Institute, Canterbury, who conveyed greetings from her institute. Mrs Pearce and Mrs Russell were appointed delegates to the council meeting to be held in Palmerston North. A discussion took place as to the advisability of holding the meetings in the evening during the summer months, and was decided to hold the matter over till the next meeting. Miss Lee, of the Maori mission, stationed at Foxton, gave a talk about her experiences among the Maoris in various parts of New Zealand. This was appreciated by members and a vote of thanks was carried with acclamation. A competition for a bowl of spring flowers resulted as follows: Mrs Pearce 1, Mrs Baker 2, Mrs Beard 3. Miss Lee kindly acted as judge. The roll call, a “Maori joke,” brought forward some very amusing stories. Mrs W. Larkin and her troupe entertained with Maori dances and songs, which were enjoyed. The hostesses were Misses Tennant. To.mati, Cook and Wilton. The next meeting will take the form of a social afternoon ; there will be competitions, games and community singing. The points, competition will l>e for a walnut loaf and there will be a plant exchange. The hostesses will be Mrs H. Waller. Misses S. Croad, L. Cook and P. Gimblett.
