TELEVISION SETS.
AT RADIO SHOW. DOUBLE PURPOSE MODELS. The first announcement of television sets for the National Radio Exhibition at Olympia was made on August 17 by the Marconiphone Company. These instruments are designed for all-wave sound reception as well as for vision reception on ultra-short waves. This is in conformity with the oft-re-peated statement that television must be regarded, for the-present, as a supplement to normal sound broadcasts, rather than as a substitute for them. One model will have a picture-size of 10 x 8 inches, and the other of 9i x 8 inches.
In neither case, it is stated, will it he necessary to extinguish the normal room lighting, when using the set for television reception, but it will he inadvisable to allow strong light tc- fall directly on the screen. Three otcher all-wave radio receivers, timing down to 7 metres, are also announced in the same maker’s 1936-7 programme. Two of these are high quality radiograms, and all of them will be capable of receiving the “sound” part of television programmes. The addition to them of a separate “vision” receiver would enable television programmes to he received in full. ' , . ' Tho increasing interest now being taken in short-wave radio is shown by the inclusion in the programme of four other sets of somewhat more limited wavelength range. One of them is a 3-valve battery set, says a London paper.
