METHODIST CHURCH GUILD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) APITI, Sept. 30. A meeting of the Methodist Guild was held on Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs Digby. There were present; Mesdaines Coombridgo (president), W. T. Pratt, T. Purnell, J. Mapson, J. Jensen, Digby, and Miss G. Digby (hon. secretary). A motion of sympathy with the members of the Purnell family was passed in the usual way. Mrs McMillan, Mrs Cockburn, and Miss Grant, were visitors prosent, _ who were warmly welcomed. It was decided to hold the garden party in January. Mrs Pratt gave an interesting talk about her recent visit to Australia. At the next meeting there is to be a competition for the best oven cloth. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mrs Digby and her daughter, Miss G. Digby. A hearty vote of thanks was passed for their hospitality. ANGLICAN CHURCH GUILD. The Anglican Guild held their meeting on Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs C. M. Stanley (hon. secretary). Mrs 11. L. Osborne presided and there wore present : Mesdames Viies, McNae, A. E. Prujean, S. 11. White, Martin, and Miss Stanloy. Rev. F. E. and Mrs Fleury wero also present-. Guild members expressed appreciation of the work of Shirley Prujean in keeping the church clean and attending to tlio flowers. She has been helping in this way for some considerable time and lias at all times provod dependable. Mrs Yilos kindly consented to the garden party onco again being held in lier garden —the proposed day for the event to bo the first Saturday in December. Mrs 11. S. Osborne donated a Christmas cake lor weight-guessing and Mrs McNae a knitted cushion. A competition for children is to be tho best button-hole; and for seniors tho best shoulder spray, the prizes being kindly donated by. Mrs Prujean. There will be various stalls and competitions, a Christmas tree for tho children, and afternoon tea for all. A novelty event will be tho wheelbarrow marathon from Apiti to Mrs Yiles’s house. The prize will bo a pair of geese, one for tho “pusher” and the other for the. “passenger.” A “community” afternoon ton was then served by Mrs Stanloy. Mrs 11. L. Osborne expressed tho pleasure of all at Mr and Mrs Fleury’s presence, and thanked them for attending. GOLF CLUB. The new links wero opened on Sunday afternoon by Mr 11. Watson, on whose property the nine-hole course is situated. The results of the four-ball handicap competition were as follow: —Miss Meads and Miss Martin, both of the Rangiwahia. Club, tied with 38. The men’s competition resulted in -a tie. Dir Ilcrclebrcrg (Utuwai) and Mr J. Swift each returned a card showing 31. Afternoon tea was served at the home of the president. GENERAL. Mrs W. T. Pratt returned in tho Wanganolla from Australia at the end of last week. Miss E. M. McDonald, of Pahiat.ua, is the guest of Mr and Mrs A. W. Bird. Owing to tho indisposition of several members and tho stormy weather, tho final of the draughts tourney has again been postponed.
