(From Our Own Correspondent.) OPIKi, bept. 27. It was certainly a gaia niglit at the hull on Friday when the local fcjports Club held its end oi season ball. Clay and spirited niusio and the mild spring evening seemed to infect young and old alike with the spirt of carnival —and the dance was voted one of the most enjoyable held in the local hail this year. Though full tno hall was not overcrowded, and visitors were present from Kongolea, Levin, Palmerston iNortli, Bainesse, itangiotu, 'lokomaru, Linton, and Shannon. Lhoso responsible lor the decorations had gone to considerable trouble and were well repaid lor their ■effort. The bare stage had been transformed by a trellis of blue and white (tho club colours), upon winch were hung gay balloons, and everywhere were masses of spring flowers and foliage. 'llie supperroom decorations,- too, were very pleasing. The tables were done in blue and white with crystal vases of yellow and white flowers. Tho whole effect was enhanced by the solt glow nom tiie lights shaded in Chinese lanterns. the supper arrangements were in the capable bands of lYlesdames Claridge, Aitcheson and Buglass, assisted by members ot the c.ub, and very much appreciated lieip was also given by Messrs iougluas and aitcheson, also Messrs Claridge, Mubey, and Lllcry. Luring tho evening novelties of all kinds made tiio hours fly and when the last dance was played it was generally felt the tune hau been all too short. A Monte Carlo waltz w'as won by Miss .Joan Alwright and partner. Mr Gosling, assisted by Mr A. iiodgson, acted us M.C. After supper Mrs Claridge (president of the Sports Club) presented the Trophies to tho winners of tho indoor games played during the winter. The pmg-pong prizes went to Miss Kutli Young, Miss Jean Young, Miss B. Leard; Mr J. Gosling and Mr A. Hodgson; bagatelle, Mr \V. iouug; quoits, Mr J. Mubey; cards (including cuclne and 500), Mr and Mrs i'aylor. Among tnose present were noticed Mrs Claridge, old rosu lace, with deeper shade panno velvet cape; Mis Buglass, brown marocain; Mrs Aitcheson, wine georgette and lace; Misses V. Sudd, Hume trope; L.
