AWAHURI INSTITUTE

There was a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Awahuri Women’s Intitule. Mrs E. Bond welcomed all members and one new member. An apology for absence was received from Miss C. Henson. Motions of sympathy were passed with the relatives of Mrs Nutt and also with Miss Gouldon in the loss of her grandmother. Letters of thanks ware received from Mesdames Taylor and Mail-, also several interesting letters from members of the Blind Institute. The delegates appointed to attend the half-yearly council meeting were Mrs Thompson and Miss Matthews. As the monthly magazine is to be posted in future( a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Miss Moore, who had attended to the distributing each month for the past three years. Menu,ms were asked to bring along suitable gifts to send a Christmas parcel to the lepers. They were also reminded to plant three potatoes each for the potato competition, Mesdames Ward and Haythorne to be in charge. Filial arrangements were made for the concert and dance to be held shortly. Mrs Bond gave an interesting report of the group meeting recently held at Te Ar: Inn a. Small gifts were forwarded to Mutes. Bates and Dungev, both membeis having recently left the district; also a gift was presented to Miss Rowlands, who is shortly to lie married. The demonstration, vliicli was very c.cscly followed, was capably given by Mi; Haythorne, on | osy making. T' e results of the competitions were; Flowers, Miss Pearce 1, Mrs Nicholson 2, Mrs Port 3; spring display. Mrs Nicholson 1, Miss Bond 2, Mrs Ward 3 (a special trophy was kindly donated by Mrs Moore for this competition and won by Mrs Nicholson); plate of gems, Airs Nicholson 1, Mrs Goodman 2, Mrs Christian 3. The hostesses were Mesdames Dyer, Thompson, MacCallrm and Miss MacCallum.
