LONG SERVICE.
HEADMASTERS’ RETIREMENTS. Two resignations of particular interest to this district came before • the Wanganui Education Board yesterday. After 43 years’ service on the teaching staff of the hoard, the resignation of Mr D. P. Thurston, headmaster of the Gonville School, was received, and the board decided to forward a letter of appreciation to lnm. Mr Thurston entered the board’s service as a cadet at the Waverley School on June 12, 1893, where he was stationed for four and a-half years. He was sole teacher at Hiwinui for nine years and held a similar post at Turakma for six years. He was headmaster of the Manchester Street School, Feilding, for a year and nine months and took over the headmastership of the Gonville School in March, 1928. The board also decided to send a letter of appreciation to Mr F. A. Mason, who resigned from the headmastership of the Foxton District High School after 12 years’ service with tile board. Mr Mason, in tendering his resignation, expressed his appreciation for the assistance he had received from the. board and paid a tribute to the appearance of its schools, especilly the Foxton District High School, which was a credit to the town.
