(From Our Own Correspondent.) SHANNON, Sept. 13.
There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the CrlcljLet Club on Wednesday evening. East season the club won the championship after a lapse of 14 years, losing only one game out of nineteen played. Four players were selected for representative honours. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £3 10s. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr W. Clayton; president, Mr V. Simpson; vice-presidents, Messrs O’Reilly, Roach, Bovis, Mc-bcy, Peach, Morgan, Stern, Doidge and E. Simes; secretary, Mr R. Graham; treasurer, Mr D. Mercer; captain, Mr R. Downer; committee, Messrs Picard, Gex, T. Roach, F. Perry, H. Moore, Leighton and E. Hurrow; delegates, Messrs Graham and Leighton. Tho club is again fortunate in having the services of Mr R. Graham as secretary; lie is not only a capable officer but is a keen cricketer, and puls much time in the care of equipment and grounds. Another faithful officer who does not always get into the limelight but is nevertheless a great asset to the club is Mr L. Satherley, the club’s umpire. He is always with the team and the club are indeed fortunate in having his services. With the Saturday half-holiday more or less universal in the district, a number of new players are available, and the club should again field a strong eleven. The ioliowiiig officers have been elected by the Shannon Volunteer Fire Brigade for the ensuing year: Acting superintendent, Mr W. Radford; deputy superintendent, Mr O. WTshart; senior foreman, Mr D. S. Boyd; junior foreman, Mr G. Seaton; treasurer, Mr 0. Tippler; secretary, Mr V. Richards; auditor, Mr J. T. Bovis. Tile superintendent, Mr H. Harvery, who will shortly be moving to Mangaore, was the recipient of a pocket wallet from brigade members, and was presented with his' second two-years’ service bar, having completed nine years’ service with two brigades. Mr R. L. Tippler is at present an inmate of a Levin hospital, where lie has undergone an operation for appendicitis. Mrs A. Morgan, of Rangiwahia, is staying with her son, Mr A. H. Morgan. i On Thursday evening Mr and Mrs W. H. Gunning and Mr J. Hal lam arrived homo from a trip to England. Mr J. Hallam lias, unfortunately, since been confined to bis bed with an attack of influenza. Mr and Mrs Gunning are in excellent health and report having had an enjoyable trip. Macedo beat Bovis in the final for the Roaco Golf Cup. the game ending on the 19rh hole, after a close -encounter. Edwards defeated Moody in the final for the C grade championship. The Shannon Rugby team defeated Waimiha at Waikanae on Saturday by 33 points to 16, leaving the local senior fifteen to play Foxton in the final of the championship.
