TREASURY’S CONSENT.

RIVER BOARD LOAN. Advice has been received by Mr J. Ilodgens, M.P., that the Treasury has approved of a loan of £4lO to the Palmerston North River Board in order to enable that body to keep certain members of its staff ill full employment for three months, and other members for twelve months. This action follows the River Board’s application to the Unemployment Board for a loan to enable it to retain the services of eight or nine men whose services would otherwise have had to be dispensed with. The Unemployment Board approved of file loan, but the Treasury refused its sanction. However, Mr Hodgens took up the matter with the Minister of Finance and flic Treasury reconsidered tlie application,. with the result that its assent lias now been given. The loan granted the River Board is conditional on its undertaking to repay the amount within two rating years.
