DAFFODIL SHOW.
HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY’S EVENT
A function looked forward to by many flower-lovers is " the daffodil show of the Palmerston North Horticultural Society. The fifteenth annual show will he held in the Empire Hall on Saturday, September 19. The schedule is a comprehensive one, giving all gardeners an opportunity to display the results of the various seasonable flowers. In the open section the chief class is the Russell Cup for 18 varieties, to be won three times. Mr A. Brewster, of Podding, has had two wins. In the amateur section, bulbs must not cost more than 10s each (except where otherwise stated) as listed in 1935 catalogues. Amateurs, with bulbs costing more than 10s each, must compete in the open section. The chief trophy is the Mrs J. L. Wcightman Cup, to be won three times, for 12 blooms, three trumpets, varieties; three Leedsii, vaneties; three Incomparabilis, varieties; three any’ other division, varieties; the bulbs not to cost tnote than £1 each. There is also a section for thodc who do not employ labour in their gardens. In this section bulbs are not to cost more than 2s _6d eac h. In most sections valuable points prizes have been allotte*. fl fierc arc classes for hvacinths, anemones, 'etc.; sections for other "cut blooms, vegetables, and domestic work. A section, open only to members of ladies’ gardening circles, is also included. The decorative section is always an attiactive one. The competition for the W. G. Black Cup and for the trophy in the decorative section w;ill also cause much interest Schedules are obtainable at the florists, or on application from the hon. secretary, Air J. Galland.
