BIG SUM WON.
YOUNG UNEMPLOYED MAN. Per Press Association DUNEDIN, July 23. Advice received to-night stated that Mr E. A. T. Johnstone, a plasterer, of Dunedin, had won the first prize of £30,000 in the Irish Free State art union. Mr Johnstone could not he located to-night, hut is described as a young man who had recently been looking for work under the Government’s placement scheme. According to an official result of the draw of the Free State sweep on the Derby which reached Palmerston North yesterday, no £30,000 or any other prize above £SOOO came to New Zealand. The 12 prizes on Mahmoud (first) were distributed in Ireland (1), U.S.A. (9), and Europe (2). The second prizes on Taj Akbar went to Ireland (1), British AYcst Indies (I). Canada (1), .U.S.A. (5), Europe (3). and South Africa (I). The third prizes on Thankerton went to Ireland (3), Europe (2), U.S.A. (6), and Canada (1). Ten prizes of £5337 10s went to the U.S.A. (41, Europe (5), and South Africa (1).
