(From Our Own Correspondent.) APIPI, July 24. The weather in Apiti since Tuesday has been very severe. Snow fell ear y on Wednesday morning and continued intermittently' throughout the day. ino ml“ around resembled the traditional English Christmas card, but there the illusion ended. The conditions, with the ground saturated with moisture and a bitterly cold sting in tho air, were horrible. Farmers bad an unenviable time feeding out to stock. One could only hope such weather would soon abate. Table Flat, too, under the nearby ranges has had its share of snow to a depth of five or six inches. After postponing the meeting owing to bad weather on Wednesday, the ladies ot the Anglican Church Guild met on J liursdny afternono. This was the annual meeting am l it was held at the homo of Mrs 11. L. Osborne, Kaliekc. Those present were Mesdames W. J. Vilcs, A. R. MeNae i’ruiean, Martin, Stanley, and Miss Stanley Several apologies for absence were ) revived, including one from the vicar and his wile, Rev. F. E. Fletiry and -Airs Floury. Satisfaction was expressed by all present at the excellent results of the year s efforts. The retiring president expressed her thanks to ail who bad helped her to carry out, the work. Airs Martin then took I lie chair and conducted the election of htlieers as follows Mrs 11. J,. Osborne, president (re-elected); vice-presidents, Mostiames W. .1. Vilcs arid A. R. AlcNao; secretary and treasurer, Mrs Stanley, with Mrs Prujean and Miss Stanley as guild Inembers. It is poped to arrange a social afternoon shortly to enable all the church Inetnbers to meet tho Rev. and Mrs i7l.:ury. A dance is also to be hold early hi August. With these activities in view rhe meeting closed. The members were llion the guests of Mrs Osborne at a most SeUctous afternoon tea. fcssiomil carnc to arrange the lay-out.-Mrs Ilarlarid and her daughter Molly left on Tuesday for Dunedin and the women’s institute conference. Several local music-lovers are listening in with much enthusiasm to tho YA stations just now. The “music-lovers ’ competitions axe in full swing. Song is on h e lips of many, not only whilst doing the daily round, but in communion with others over the wires and in public places as well.
