TREE PLANTING, DENBIGH STREET.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—May I crave the use of your valuable space to repeat the following proposal now being placed before the residents of Denbigh Street. Ihe Council is desirous of celebrating the forthcoming Arbor Day on August 3 by the planting of trees in Denbigh Street—if possible alone both frontages for the whole length. . It is proposed that the residents donate the cost of the necessary trees (each resident providing for at least his own frontage), and the Council will undertake the planting and care of same, although in the latter case this possibly can only be successfully carried out with the continued co-operation of those interested. Naturally any scheme of street tree-planting must lie uniform, and for that reason it will be necessary for the Council to arrange for the purchase of suitable trees. Approximately one tree per chain will be required and the cost is estimated al 3s per tree. In this connection enquiries are being made with a view to planting native trees if such are found suitable and procurable. It will be necessary, of course, for the response to this appeal to be general and the Council, in its present effort to enhance the beauty value of Feilding, and Denbigh Street in particular, looks forward with confidence to the wholehearted support of the residents in this locality. Should the proposal meet with' the support it deserves, a fitting ceremony will be arranged, of which, public 'notice will be given in due course. —I am, etc., T. COLLTNS. Mayor. Feilding, July 18, 1936.
