VALEDICTORY.
MRS. R. M. STUBBS. Mrs R. M. Stubbs, who is shortly leaving Palmerston North, was the. guest of honour at a farewell party on Saturday afternoon. The function was held at Messrs Collinson and Cunninghnme’s tea-rooms by members of the play-reading circle of the Manawatu Women’s Club and the Grave and Gay Players. The rooms looked charming, the tablecloths being of pink and white, while low bowls of daphne decorated the tables, and a large spray of pink roses on a gold panel formed a striking background for the speaker’s table. Miss Cranston, as convener of both circles, welcomed the guests and was assisted by Mrs D. C. Pryor. After tea had been served, elocutionary items were given by Miss Maunder and Miss Cranston.
On behalf of the players, Miss Cranston extended good wishes to Mrs Stubbs, a valued reader, whose departure would be a great loss to both the circles, and asked her acceptance of a pair of crystal candlesticks. Mrs A. E. Mansford offered the guest of honour kind wishes from the Women’s Club,, expressing the hope that she would have every happiness and prosperity in the future, and saying that she would be much missed by the members, her charm of manner having endeared her to all.
Mrs Stubbs thanked the players for their gift and expressed regret at having to leave the circles, and wished them all future success.
Befoi;e departing, “Auld Lang Syne” was sung, Miss Maunder being at the piano. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Bagnall, Cameron, Henderson, and ■ Mouldey and Ms:es D’Ath, Rawlins, Jamieson and Ashby.
