(From Our Own Correspondent.) AcHHURST, July 16.

A well attended meeting of the Women’® Institute was held in the Town Hall. The president (-Mrs Flowers) presided. A polo airs for absence wore leceived from Alcftdames Currie, JJolroyd, Davis, and Miss Dobson. The president gave a hearty welcome to visitors, and new members of whom two have recently joined. Ati-s loot and Mrs Chittenden. A vote of sympathy was passed with Airs Currie in her recent sad bereavement, the members standing - in silence. Mrs Edmond moved a vote of thanks to the president, secretary, and members of the committee; also the Drama Club for their untiring efforts in helping to make the recent concert and dance a huge success. Mrs Korrogan also moved a vote of thanks to .Mrs -Maunder, r.enr., for making and presenting the cake which helped considerably with the evening s finance. This was seconded by Mrs Murphy and carried. Mrs Finlay gave another of her interesting talks on first aid and was accorded a vote of thanks. Mcsdamcs Fairless, senr., and B. Fair’ess, junr., havo both kindly volunteered to make and present the institute birthday cake;-the birthday is to ho held at an early date. During (ho afternoon Misses L. Trass and M. Bristow played a pianoforte duet. The winners of the competition for tho best laundered table cloth were Alio A. R. Brown 1, Airs McDonnell 2, and Airs Brockio 3. In the junior division, for tbe best -ironed serviette, .Miss Hydnmnn was first! Alisa Irene Woodroole second and Aliss Al. Wilkin third. The competition next month is for seniors and juniors, the best nightdress or slip, costing not more than 'Ss. Airs Cottcrill and Aliss Forlong kindly did tho judging, and received thanks for doing so. A second competition, which went by popular vote, the best flower in the garden, was won by Aliss Youle. A vote of sympathy was passed with Aliss Thorne, who at present is an inmate of the Palmerston North Hospital. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Alcsdamea Wilkin, Wooclroofe, Baton, Tremowan, end Miss I. Wooclroofe. The hostesses for tho following month are Alcedames Anion, Brown, Cooke, Aliases A!. Wilkin and M. Voule.

The fortnightly euchre- ping-pong, and dance on Wednesday drew a good attend, mice. The winners of the card section were, as follow: —Ladies: Mrs K. Alorna 1; Airs C. Harper, consolation. Alen: Air Fox, senr., 1; Air Al. Doreen, consolation. Dancing was enjoyed for tile remainder of the evening, music being sup. plied by .Mrs Hewitt. The duties of AI.C, were carried out by Air T. Baton.
