MANCHESTER ST. SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

Tbo monthly meeting of the Manchester Street School Committee was held last evening, when there were present: Mr G. J. Fitzpatrick (chairman), Alestlaines P. G. Guy and S. McDowell, and Messrs Jas. Campbell, G. Watts, W. Oliver, L. J. Carmine, and I. Burne. , The headmaster (Mr A. K. Robertshaw) reported that the roll number stood at 364 at present. During the month ten pupils were admitted and nine left;- The average attendance for the month was 335.9. Deferring to the departure of Nurse AVimsett, dental nurse, the headmaster stated that she had done excellent work for the school anti at all times had shown a keen interest, attending all school functions and generally showing that her interests' did not begin and end with her official duties.

On the motion of Messrs Carmine and Watts, the committee placed on record their appreciation of Miss 'Wimsett’s services and her keen interest in tile school. The committee decided to celebrate Arbor Day at the school and to support any civic recognition of the day. The headmaster reported that arrangements for the school fancy dress ball w-erc in hand and it was hoped to attain last year’s success. The committee decided to seek the co-opera-tion of the Parents’ Association in regard to the supper. The committee supported the headmaster’s suggestion that the parents and friends of the school should be circularised and asked for donations to the school sports fund which had become low, much material being required. i The chairman reported on the visit to the school of the Minister of Education, saying that it was necessarily curtailed but the Minister had expressed the hope that he would be able to come lor a longer visit later on. -Permission was given to St. John Basketball Club to practise on the school area in the mornings.

Mr Carmine reported for the visiting committee on various matters requiring attention and these were authorised.
