LITTLE THEATRE SOCIETY

ONE-ACT PLAYS PRESENTED. Tlie Palmerston North Little Theatre Society presented three one-act plays in All Saints’ Hall last evening. There was a very good attendance, and those present were not slow to show their appreciation of the talented performances. The programme was altogether a pleasing one. and was heartily enjoyed. The first play was “The Hundredth Applicant,” a' humorous study of a business magnate and the people who crowded about his life. The cast was:— 1 Lady Square, Mrs W. A. Keeling; Ann Mailowe, Miss Grace Taylor; Rose, Miss Turner; reporter, Air F. Hopwood; Sir Lionel Square. Air A. K. R. Joblin. Miss Freda Whittaker produced the play most successfully. “Get Out of Your Cage” (Mary Plowman) is a study of an emotional French girl who found her life as tutor at an Knglisli school untenable. Aliss Patricia Harman was . outstanding in this role. The cast was:—Angelo Caemaerts, Aliss P. Harman ; Aliss Hope, Airs Ronald Abraham : Aliss Drear, Airs D. P. Ragnall; Aliss Aleek. Mrs C. L. Turnbull: Aliss Winnie Le SS> Miss Helen Williams; Miss' Duquesne. Airs E. L. Christian. Air ,T. Garde Grim-' shaw, as producer, gave, a fine interpretation to the play. _ “Count Albany’.’ (Donald Carswell) was the final offering. This play presented a study of Prince Charles Edward that was historically faithful, in contradistinction to the sentimental legend of “Ronnie Prince Charlie.’ His life was one more of tragedy than romance, and the players conveyed the dramatic atmosphere with reality. The play was produced by Airs L. Bnstowe, with the following cast:—Father Mackintosh, Air C. N. Turnbull; the Cardinal of York, AH R. Abraham; Clementina Walkinshnw, Airs M. AT. Harman ; Prince Charles Edward, Air D. C. Prvor; a Strange Gentleman and Servant, Air Harold Harman. Supper and dancing were later enjoyed. .
