LOVELOCK IMPRESSES
Received July 11, 1.10 p.m. LONDON, July 10,
For the British championship hea.ts the ground was heavy, and better times are expected to-morrow. J. E. Lovelock (New Zealand) waited till the last minute before deciding to race in the mile instead of the three miles. His meeting with the title-holder, Wooderson, promises to be the outstanding attraction of the meeting and suggests that the New Zealander is concentrating on the 1500 metres. The masterly ease with which he finished his heat today. being content with a place, created a good impression. Lovelock has entered for the 1500 and 5000 metres at Berlin and intends to start in only one. He has been training with Boot and Matthews. J. Beresford and R. Southwood have been selected to represent Britain in the doublo sculls at the Olympiad. Beresford thus completes the remarkable record of participating m five Olympiads. He won the singles sculls at Paris in 1924 and assisted in winning the fours at Los Angeles.
