GOLF
WEEK-END PLAY. VISITORS AT HOKOWHITU. A team which included such wellknown players as D. C. Collins (Wairarapa), D. O. Whyte (Heretaunga), F. G. Fryer and 11. Gross, from Napier, played a Manawatu team at the Hokowhitu links on Saturday, the visitors winning a close contest in the morning by three games to two, with two games halved, and in tho afternoon going down by six to one. The course was on the’ slow side and, considering tho conditions, the golf was good. Tho results of the games were (visitors’ names mentioned first):
Morning round. —D. C. Collins and D. O. Whyte halved with A. E. Ekstedt and K. S. Glendinning; F. G. Fryer and H. Crosse beat O. H. Williams and A. E. It. Jobtin; Dr. Hutchison and 11. Fullerton-Smith halved with ‘ G. M. McCaskill and S.. A. Goldingham; A. Fullerton-Smith and H. G. Carver boat P. G. Tizard and J. F. Field; T. C. Lowry and R. E. Hewat lost to H. W. Petre and R. G. Moore; J. Arkwright and Bunny lost to J. Jones and P. Barraud. Afternoon round. —Whyte and Collins lost to Ekstedt and Glendinning; Hutchison lost to McCaskill; A. Ful-lerton-Smith lost to Goldingham ; Carver beat W. L. Fitaherbcrt; R. Ful-lerton-Smith lost to Joblin ; Arkwright and Bunny lost to Jones and Barraud ; Fryer and Crosse lost to Hornabrook and Williams. . ’ There was some fine play in the four-ball between Collins and Whyte and Ekstedt and Glendinning. and the game wa-s all square at the eighteenth. Collins played some Food golf early, going out in 37. but coming home lie was not so deadly with his approaches and he completed the round in 39making tho good card of <6. At the turn tho visitors were two up, and increased it to 3 up with 5 to plaw hut Glendinning produced somo brilliant play, getting a 3 at the fourteenth. and a 4 a.t the eighteenth, while Ekstedt sank a 40ft putt on the seventeenth for a three, thus hah mg the match. More brilliant play was seen in the match between Fryer and Cross and Williams and Joblm, all the quartette playing perfect shots at times. HOIINABROOK’S ROUND.
Hornabrook maintains Ins excellent form, and at Hokowhitu during the week-end returned a card of /2, going out in 35 and returning in Ai .. His card read: —Out: 5 4 4 4 44 o 35. In: 4 5 2 5 4 4 5 4 4—37. STABLEFORD BOGEY.
A Stableford bogey match was played at Hokowhitu during the week-end. The best cards were returned by W. Smith and D. Moloney. 41 points; M. D. Loftus and N. H. Sinclair. 38 points; Triggis and K. C. Clayton, 38 points; L. A. Ferguson and Grant, 34 points ;• F. Connie and D. McKenzie, 30 points. ■
